The mission of the Department of Explosive Devices Disposal is to identify, collect and neutralize explosive devices and home-made bombs. It also conducts special investigations in relation to explosive devices.
In addition to Athens and Thessaloniki, units comprising this department are also located in large provincial cities. The section is staffed with volunteer policemen who have been chosen based on strict criteria and who undergo continuous trained.
The department is equipped with advanced technological apparatus including robots, remote controlled vehicles, anti-explosive uniforms, various types of metal detectors, mine detectors and x-ray devices.
