The Hellenic Police Officer’s Oath
The mission of the Hellenic Police Officers School is to provide scientific education, operational training, as well as cultural and social development for future officers of the Hellenic Police.
The Hellenic Police Officers School is equivalent to the schools of higher education institutions, as well as the corresponding Schools of the Armed Forces.
The admission of candidate students to the Hellenic Police Officers School has been taking place with the system of Panhellenic Examinations since 1995.
Candidates have to undergo preliminary examinations, including psychotechnical tests, medical examinations, and athletic tests, before being selected by the Ministry of Education. Only candidates who pass these tests are considered eligible for enrollment in the Hellenic Police Officers School.
The duration of study at the Hellenic Police Officers School lasts eight (8) semesters and is divided into four (4) academic years. The program consists of theoretical and practical training, following international standards.
The educational program is completed with cultural and educational activities designed to broaden the intellectual and scientific horizons of the trainees.
In addition, since November 2010, a program for ‘environmental education’ and ‘environmental training’ has been implemented as part of the protection of the environment, the strengthening of individual responsibility and the reinforcement of environmental awareness of the trainees.
During their entire four-year training program, the trainees reside and are fed within the premises of the Hellenic Police Officers School. Also, they wear a specific type of uniform, which bears the emblem of the Hellenic Police Officers School.
The curriculum is a concern and responsibility of the Educational Council of the Hellenic Police Officers School. The Council meets at regular intervals to evaluate and improve the program of studies.
The teaching staff of the Greek Police Officers School consists of distinguished Higher Education Professors, Judges and Prosecutors, Legal and other specialized experts, as well as officers of the Hellenic Police or other Security Forces with high professional experience and training on matters of police interest or other issues, such as civil protection.

The duties of the trainees include their participation in parades, honoring events as well as their presence in ceremonies, lectures and celebrations. In exceptional cases and ordered from the Chief of the Hellenic Police, the trainees can be placed on alert or in policing measures, assisting the mission of the Greek Police.
Trainees who achieve high grades or demonstrate particular care and diligence in other areas of their school activities are awarded honorary distinctions as ethical rewards by the Commander of the Hellenic Police Officers School.
After successfully completing the four-year study program, graduates of the Hellenic Police Officers School take an oath and receive their swords from the President of the Hellenic Republic during the official ceremony. The new police officers start their career as Police Second Lieutenants.
During the ceremony, the new police lieutenants hand over the War Flag of the Hellenic Police Officer School to the fourth-year cadet police officers. This flag has the image of Saint Artemios, who is the Patron Saint of the Hellenic Police Corps.
The new police officers are ranked as Police Second Lieutenants. They have the opportunity of a career progression up to the top of the hierarchical pyramid.
